Pingtung Christian hospital chest medicine doctor Ye Chun-Rei participated in Japan and Koreans’ “the chest medicine image academic society”, to conduct "the global network image diagnosis competition" by the total integral points of 4,080, won 2006 award. That proved the Taiwan’s chest medical image diagnosis has the world-class standard, through the network lets the world see Taiwan.

This “network image diagnosis competition”, was previously announced questions weekly on their web page, all it takes is a qualified doctor, who had been previously published papers on medical journals or periodics, and also a teacher under the list of Ministry of Education Department, then he(she) was qualified to present their own diagnostic on the web page, the maximum possible score was 100 points. Last year they got total of 52 topics to be answered, Doctor Ye Chun-Rei among the 3,000 participating doctors, is the only one break 4,000 points, second to a French professor.

The Pingtung Christian Hospital’s last stage ward(for patients who soon be pass away), last night(March 26th) sounds the marriage melody, many people like nurses and other employees around the ward were invited to attain the wedding, Ouyang Yan Ling and Chen Yu Fong officially got married, completes mother’s final wish.

Originally from Hualian Ms. Ding used to live with daughter, two years ago intestine cancer was diagnosised positive, at that time, she received the treatment in Hualian’s hospitals, the daughter was then travel in between Taipei and Hualian for caring her mother.

Because Ms. Ding's elder brother lives in Pingtung, therefore he suggested to transfer her to PTCH for further custody . On March 16th Ms. Ding were accepted by the hospital, because the cancer cells already shift to liver and lung , PTCH transfer her to last stage ward on March 19th, her daughter then took long leave from work in Taipei, and two days after, her fiancee also take leave and came down to Pingtung.
Ms. Ding body’s Worsening this week, she barely remain conscious but still speechless, Dr. Zhuang Yueh-chuan suggest an early wedding before April, the family members then decided to held the wedding in the last stage ward right next Ms. Ding’s ward bed.

Six volunteers from MV Doulos-the biggest floating vessel in the world, all Christians and preaching around the world had came to PTCH for 2 weeks evangelist work, they will present themselves by drama, singing, spreading gospel. 4 women and 2 men missionaries are from Germany, Finland, Australia ,Brazil ,South Africa, and Tanzania, they work on ship in different position, without paying for their work, even pay for their staying by sponsor back in their country.

(Good Books for All),has over 6000 different books, is the largest floating book store in the Genesis record ,it has visited more than 500 ports, been to more than 100 countries around the globe, across Africa, Asia, America, Middle East, Australia, Europe, crew members from 50 more different countries, 300 more Christian youths, share good book as their good faith to God.

Pingtung Christian Hospital last stage ward hold the marriage celebration for cancel patient Mr. Gao Yuming's son Gao Chienming ,publication date: 2007-06-11, Pingtung Christian hospital last stage ward hold the celebration on 11th/June afternoon. Mr.? Gao Chienming holds the engagement ceremony for at the last stage cancer patient –his father Gao Yuming, he let his father who is unable to go home can participate in his life time important matter. Under the family friends testimony, Gao Chienming and bride Jiang Hsiaohui completes father's wish.
The patient age 57 years old come from Tai-Wu Shian’s Wan-An village Gao Yuming is the chief of the tribe, in February, 1992, he first discovered Rectal Cancer, after multiple surgeries treatment, still the cancel cell transfer into his brain same year November, this February Gao Yuming transfer the last stage ward, because of the brain is constantly attack by cancer cell, he sometimes unconscious , now he can only reside in bed, but spiritual condition is considered good, the pain control is fair.

Gao Yuming has two sons and two daughters, all has grown up, the older son is 24 year-old Gao Chienming in order to look after him and lighten his mom's burden, decided to resign from the work and take full time care of his father. That’s why he does not want his father to miss his event of life.
Gao Chienming and his bride knew eachother since childhood,, after grew up they once lost connection to eachother because working in the city, until
beginning of this year, Jiang Hsiaohui to visit Mr. Gao in the hospital ward, then she met Gao Chienming again and fall in love again. Although they met each other for only several months, but Jiang Hsiaohui has high praise to Gao Chienming, she believed Gao Chienming is a person to live together for life. The Gao family has showed up in April for both family’s engagement according to tradition’s ceremony, because limited by the hospital space, the engagement ceremony carries on by the Christianity way, and hold by preacher.

The last stage ward was decorated colorful banners and became so bright and beautiful. Mr. Gao (The patient) wears the chief crown and put on traditional clothing with splendid attire appearance, the accompany ralatives and friends were more than 40 all dress up, the ward used to be quiet and peaceful now became vivid with congratulate sound. Soon after Gao Yuming enters the ceremony, his tears were falling, so touching, he than thank everybody for all this make possible, he also assure the bride family that the Wan An village will be taking good care of the bride Jiang Hsiaohui.

Continued from last year’s charitable concert performance to raise fund the last stage ward of PTCH, this year we invite the wonderful Chi-Mei Philharmonic Orchestra, The topic: To see the Taiwan’s love toward Malawi, Africa. In this charitable concert, Chi-Mei will loan out 20 precious (collectable violins) to perform in the concert, the ticket sales will be used for Malawi medical service fund.

The Chi-Mei philharmonic orchestra is a private owned by founder and CEO of Chi-Mei industry Mr. Xu Wenlung, its musical performance for promoting classical music trail is all over the world, the total member is close to 50, the orchestra’s head is director Lu Chingmin. Philharmonic orchestra assistant regimental commander Zhuo Chengna indicated that, the philharmonic orchestra continuously carry the community expectation by performing in classical music, this is the first time orchestra arrive and play in Pingtung to perform music for local folks , and contribute to African Malawi ‘s in needed medical service.

This year PTCH has undertake fifth anniversary of Taiwan medical service in Malawi, for the past five years PTCH medical team not only taking the clinical medical practices, also treat more than 4,000 AIDS patinets, enforce the touring Malawi medical service, the midwife training program and finally blood donation activity . PTCH has thus setup specially fund for ?Malawi medical service. Raise fund carries on the following humanity aid plan:
First, nutrition plan: For the AIDS patients nutritious .

Second, micro loan plan: Subsidizes 32 Malawi widows to raise the chicken, from build the hen houses, buys the chicken, nurtures them to sell for money, enables the widows to be self-supported. The widows also will take term to guard the hen house and some sleep in the house. Simultaneously they will also perform during the day, taking care of ?orphanage children.

Third, elementary school classroom power distribution: most of the elementary school does not have the electric lamp, especially during rainy season, the medical team will assists the power distribution improvement project.

Pingtung area’s only new born intensive care ward- Pingtung Christian Hospital, today conduct the new born home coming activities, there are altogether 32 premature new born baby in between January 1st, 2002 ?and July 31st, 2006, the birth week number was less than 36 weeks, the body weight was lower than 2,500 gram, all these premature new born babies gather in the hospital, happily together, the lowest week count was 24 weeks, the lightest body weight is 710 grams.

For the premature infant, the newborn intensive care unit is their first "home", Chien, Shun-cheng is almost 4 years old now, born 29 weeks weight 730 gram, he lived in hospital for five months, he’s mother recalled this hard time 3 years ago, and she still have mix feeling about it, at that time she received urgent caesarean birth operation in other hospital, soon transfer to PTCH, at that time, mother and infant was separated in different hospitals, soon after she felt better, she rush to see her baby in PTCH disregard that she needed more rest, when she saw her baby she burst into tears because the baby had tubes everywhere and monitoring sensors were full of he’s little body. Not only that, soon the little baby needed to go through two internal lung breeding need to transfer blood emergency, although so many close calls, fortunately Chien, Shun-cheng now doesn’t show any retarded side effectness.

Nickname "Little Hardy" Lin, Chen-feng, born 28 weeks births weights 1,380 grams, lived in intensive care unit for one month, but encounter two bacteria infections. Mother told us during that one month in the intensive care unit, for her everyday is like one year, but now the kid was so actively social with other kids in the conference center of PTCH, just hard to imagine that during that time he even received Patent Ductus Arteriosus operation.

PTCH new born department doctor Gau, Di-Wei said: Premature infant must facing respiratory distress. Patent Ductus Arteriosus symdrom. cerebral ventricle bleeding. Infections. Necrosis enteritis, 5 major categories of risks, so the first time treatment become crucial, the shorter the transfer time, the better for infant’s survival rate. In ICU when the premature infant’s increasing in weight, and doesn’t need the respiratory support, more milk intake, that’s the biggest achievement for the nursing staff.

The premature infant under the growing condition also need to trace whether they have the development slow down problem, the nervous system, the vision... The complication, PTCH open up the premature infant tracing system started from 2,002, at the present time it is held by newborn department of pediatrics faculty Doctor Gao, Di-wei, every Tuesday afternoon by reservation, trace the premature infant who’s weight under 2,000 grams, give appraisal of their intelligent development, learning ability, body development maturity and house care advisory, let Pingtung area’s premature infant can have a reasonable system to trace and treat the infant, for now there’re 90 finished cases, and 70 is currently under supervising.

Pingtung Christian Hospital started from today till September 1st, every day from 9 AM to 12 PM conducts the distress rescue charity bazaar meeting in the main hall, the auction including daily goods like second hand groceries, also hand made cakes and pastries by volunteers, tailor work, aboriginal handicrafts. The income will go to the medical distress fund, helping the poor and needed patients.

Pingtung Christian Hospital Social Worker Department Director Lin Tzu-hui indicated that, at present time, each month average 37 cases need to have economical assessment, after social worker’s appraisal and interview , and make sure that the person doesn’t have fix job and income, no working ability, children are unable to afford such medical treatment fee, the true verdict will drive social workers to seek society resource to help out the situation, to use the distress relief fund for the specific family to pass the most difficult time. One recent example was a lady surname MA, she replaced her joint and she has four children, the husband is disability, she used to sold the peanuts. sweet yam for living and supporting family, the unstable income is not assurance for their situation, after PTCH’s social worker made an overall understanding of the situation, the relief fund was issued and solve Mrs. Ma’s problem.

One thing bother PTCH’s social workers, were some economical difficulty patients is hospitalized and needs 24 hours bed side assist, in another word, if they don’t have relatives or lost contact with their relatives, they have to hire maid to take care of, 2thousand NT daily fee is a big burden, for the relief fund also.
In order to enrich this charity bazaar meeting, the volunteers spend their own time to filtering all kind of donations from society, they also displayed individual talent and skill. In the stand, the most attraction was from the volunteer Wan, Wen-Hsiung, he made all kinds of sea animals from staws, there’re sea dragon, sea horse, shrimp, phoenix ..etc., very delicate work that attract many people stop by and enjoy his work, also the home make cake, cookies, also the face mask for motorist, and hand made cell phone bag, hair ornaments, all these were volunteers lovely handy craft.


PTCH has an principle to help the urgent needed, instead of helping the poorest, every month, there were 3~6 cases were helped by PTCH, some after release from hospital still need long term help, the social worker department will then ?transfer them to government social welfare program for continue support or help them apply social security supplement as low-income household. the charity or assists to apply for the low income household. Social Worker Department Director Lin Tzu-hui said every month there were 4 cases, if each subsidizes 5,000 NT, the distress fund need to have at least 200,000NT annually, although this time the charity bazaar is unable to achieve the goal, but in the future they will held more of these charity bazaars, therefore they welcome people to donate household used things if it’s in good condition, please donate and carry those to PTCH’s information counter.
